Where to stay with kids

Krabi with kids

Limestone cliffs, island-hopping and a compact beach town where you can walk to dinner. Ao Nang is the family base. Railay looks amazing but is harder with little ones.

A note from Ron

Krabi suits families who want island days and a town you can walk around. Ao Nang is small enough to walk to dinner, and the island trips are the highlight. With a baby or toddler it still works: stay in Ao Nang itself and treat Railay as a day trip, not a base.

Ao Nang centre

Compact and busy, everything on foot: food, pharmacies, tour pickups.

Under 55-1112+

Easiest base for first-timers and little ones.

Walkable: yes, mostly stroller-OK

Beach: Calm Nov-Apr. Rough with red flags May-Oct.

Noppharat Thara

Calmer, wider beach next to Ao Nang.

Under 55-11

Shallow a long way out, and at low tide you can walk a sandbar to two islets.

Walkable: fewer restaurants, walk or tuk-tuk into town

Beach: Shade only from the trees at the back. Murky at low tide.

Railay

Stunning, but boat-only: you wade ashore from a longtail.

5-1112+

Sandy, uneven paths (no strollers), few shops, and boats stop when the sea is rough. Great as a day trip.

Walkable: on sand only

Beach: Railay West is calm and shallow Nov-Apr.

Klong Muang

Quiet, a few resorts, about 15 minutes' drive from Ao Nang.

12+

Best for resort stays with older kids.

Walkable: no

Beach: Rocky at low tide, so pack water shoes.

Getting there

From Krabi airport

About 30-45 minutes by car to Ao Nang.

From Phuket

By road it's roughly 2.5-3 hours by private car, usually with a stop. By sea, slow ferries run from Rassada Pier to Noppharat Thara pier in about 2-2.5 hours. With kids the bigger, slower boat is the easier choice: at least one speedboat operator says its boat isn't suitable for children.

Car seats

Ask for one when you book. Some private transfers on Klook include one free seat for little ones, and extra seats cost a little more. Shared transfers usually can't promise one.

Beaches with kids

Ao Nang

The town beach. Fine for a paddle Nov-Apr, busy with longtail boats.

Noppharat Thara

Wide and shallow, the pick for toddlers. Go at low tide for the sandbar walk, early for shade.

Railay West

Calm and shallow Nov-Apr. A day trip by longtail, about THB 200 per person return.

The one rule

Red flag means no swimming. The Andaman side is calmer Nov-Apr and rough May-Oct.
